How do stretch marks occur?
“Stretch marks” are known as “Striae gravidarum”, also called “Striae distensa”, which implies that they result from an extension or stretching. During pregnancy for instance the hormone balance changes and the skin is stretched due to the growth of the womb. Both factors contribute to strip-like dilutions of the connective tissue, especially on the stomach, thighs and breasts. Initially, the skin appears reddish, later permanently porcelain white. The resulting aesthetic disturbances are commonly considered as incriminating and therefore some women do not want to become pregnant.
