Dogs really like to be with people because they are pack oriented. They usually do not run away but I would put on a nice long tether for a bit till he gets to know you. If you have a fenced in yard that should do. Don’t get right into playing ball and so on as he/she may be a little timid. They are interested in food and water and treats and a lot of pets, hugs and praise. Soon you can ease the dog in 2-3 days into play by just tossing the ball.
