how do stoves work?
See the link for the control and operation of electric stoves, “How do stoves work.” I could add that electric stoves require a lot of electrical energy compared to a radio, TV or light bulb. They are more like a set of electric space heaters. Therefore electric stoves are usually connected to the 220 Volt service connected to your house instead of the usual 110 Volts (single phase power). This requires tthe use of both “hot wires” that enter your home from the street and special high current circuit breakers are also provided in your main junction box. Your clothes dryer probably also uses 220 Volts (or two phase power) as well as any central air-conditioning system. The power poles on the street have three live wires (three phase service) however, only a machine shop with very large motors or heaters would require three phase service at 440 Volts.
