How do states secure their nuclear weapons?
Optimally, states use a combination of barriers, guards, surveillance cameras, motion sensors, background checks on personnel, and locks built into the actual nuclear weapons. The United States and most nuclear powers employ all these protections. Unfortunately, due to Russia’s enormous nuclear stockpile and lack of funds, its nuclear facilities have been left inadequately protected.
