How do spring tides increase the chances of flooding?
Many rivers flood because of a lot of snow melt, combined with torrential spring rains, pouring down into tributaries and eventually into major rivers. Rivers terminate into a delta at the ocean and they’re at about the same level as sea level. At high tide, the level of the delta would become higher and you might even see backflow up the mouth of the river. This would cause the river itself to back up, causing rising levels and increased flooding.
