How do some food/drink companies figure out the expiration date to the exact minute?
Using statistics, it is possible to work out the average date and time at which the company better make the expiriation date – to be on the safe side. However, I don’t think that’s what companies do – I think they work out an approximate date to use – say 90 days in the future, and then add exactly 90 days to the date and time they made it. That way, they can subtract exactly 90 days to work out exactly when they made the product, and thus track down what batch it was – just in case something goes wrong.
