How do slime molds move?
Amoebae quickly multiply should they ingest bacteria, mating and forming zygotes which then grow into plasmodia, consuming microorganisms and growing even larger. Protoplasmic strands within the plasmodium basically reach out towards newer patches of food, and advance as more protoplasm streams towards the new source. Also, props to the slime mold – you may think little single celled organisms aren’t too bright, but you’d be wrong. Studies have proven that these little guys are smart enough to recognize chemicals given off by their food and actively travel towards it.
