What modern YECers (young earth creationists) do is forget history. YEC was the accepted scientific theory from 1500 – 1800. From 1790-1831 scientists — all of whom were Christians and many of whom were ministers — showed YEC to be false. The plain facts of geology caused scientists to reject YEC. Basically, YEC must propose that all geological features were laid down by a world-wide flood. Otherwise, you can’t have a young earth. Scientists showed that a world-wide flood never happened by 1831. 2. Ad hoc hypotheses. For each individual piece of geological or biological evidence, YEC will make an ad hoc hypothesis.
