How do sharks,whales and dolphins sleep?
First the people who gave you info about sharks are wrong. Sharks: ALL sharks sleep, but some species can never stop swimming where others can. For those that can stop swimming they will find a safe spot to lay down for a nap. With the sharks that cannot stop swimming the easy way to put it is that they “sleep swim”, kinda like how humans sleep walk. The sharks are able to shut down various parts of their brain while keeping others active. So, they can allow their body and mind to rest while keeping the part of the brain active that keeps them swimming. For water bound mammals such as whales, manatee and so on and so forth they are still learning a great deal about their sleep patterns. Overall they tend to sleep in short bursts… sleep, sleep, sleep… need air, wake up, get air… back to sleep.
