Our Secure Server IDs work in conjunction with the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, which is a standard part of most web server and web browser packages. By obtaining and installing a Secure Server ID, you enable the use of SSL at your web site. Ninety-eight percent of all browsers are equipped to recognize VeriSign IDs. When a browser connects to a site with a Secure Server ID from VeriSign, the browser automatically uses the ID to verify that it is doing business with a legitimate site. Then the browser and the server use the public key contained within the certificate to encrypt all information that passes between them.
