How do SEAS’ graduate programs rank in U.S. News and World Report?
• In 2008, SEAS’s graduate programs in engineering and applied sciences ranked 22. This may seem “low”, especially relative to other school at Harvard, but keep in mind a few things: • Statistically, even as programs improve dramatically, U.S. News rankings, based upon how they are calculated, rarely move upwards. • SEAS (with a faculty count of around 70) is being compared to much larger, and more traditional engineering institutions like MIT and Berkeley (with faculty counts of over 300+ in engineering alone). • According to our Academic Office, the U.S. News ranking (and others) prospective grad students indicate that faculty and their research is the # 1 reason they choose to attend/not attend a program (NOT RANKINGS). • Applications to our graduate programs have nearly tripled over the pass decade and quality remains high (we accept only about 13.5% of applicants); in the same period, the graduate student population has nearly doubled (to 350). • Accepted graduate students in engi
