How Do Sea Otters Reproduce?
• Step 1:Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) breed sexually, so males and females have to mate in order to produce offspring (called pups). Males and females stay apart from each other except when it is time to breed. Males may stay in groups consisting solely of males while females stay in a group consisting mostly of female relatives and their pups. Because sea otters live along the Pacific coastline, the waters are full of food year round. According to experts at Sea World, sea otters are the only species of otters that breed year round. The male plays no part in rearing the pups. He mates with any available female he comes across.
