How do schools decide to close?
Schools may decide to close temporarily if so many students, faculty, or staff are out sick that the school cannot operate properly. This happened at the end of the 2008-2009 school year and could happen again during the 2009-2010 school year. Some students, faculty, or staff within a particular school may develop flu-like symptoms or H1N1 flu. As long as they leave school upon becoming ill, stay home until they are well, AND the school can function properly without them, the school will probably stay open.
