How do run-down outbuildings affect the market value of a property?
James, Outbuildings have the potential to appreciate the value of a property or depreciate it. It would be fair to assume that buildings in poor condition would devalue the property to the extent it would either cost to bring them in good repair or demolish them and remove the materials. It is sometimes difficult to know how the perspective buyer will view the condition of these buildings…..depending on their location relative to the primary structure and the home tself…..it may not be a factor.
