How do rich text formatting buttons work?
All formatting buttons insert special formatting tags in your text. The exact behaviour of these buttons depends on the web browser you are using. However all browsers will at least insert the tag at the end of the text you are editing. In case of formatting that requires so called opening and closing tag the first inserted tag will be opening one, and when the button is pressed again the closing tag will be added at the end of your text. In case you need to apply some formatting to the text, which is not at the end, then you have to manually cut’n’paste the formatting tag into the appropriate place. Luckily some browsers (including IE and FireFox) will also insert opening and closing tag directly around the current text selection. Please note that the tags that are inserted as a result of pressing any of formatting buttons are just plain text.
