Ans :- The record ID’s are primarily used by the conduits/desktop software, for synchronization purposes. A record id is generated when the record is created on a Palm OS platform device. It is a 3-byte number, and is unique within the database. When new records are created on the Palm Desktop, they are not assigned IDs until the desktop is synchronized with the device. When a conduit sends a new record to the device, the device assigns an ID and sends it back to desktop. This keeps the number generating logic in one place – the device. The built-in applications currently don’t do anything interesting with the record IDs, but the desktop does use them to sync records with Palm Desktop.
