How do Rank I and Rank II differ (for School Counselors)?
Rank II will be issued after the student completes 33 hours toward their Master’s degree in school counseling. Rank I requires 60 graduate hours related to education and your field of study. The Standard Guidance Certification requires 60 graduate hours in counseling and guidance. Those students who earned their Master’s degree in school counseling may receive Rank I and the Standard Guidance Certificate simultaneously if no coursework outside the field of counseling is taken toward the 60 hours. If other course work in education outside the counseling area is taken, a student may earn the Rank I at the completion of 60 graduate hours if your advisor creates and files a Rank I planned program with teacher certification.
