How do pool swim triathlons work?
As I’ve experinced on our triathlete swim training class, pool swim triahlon is like getting in end of the lane of the pool, swimming under the rope, ducking under the rope and starting off again. Swimmer must try to hit the pool wall with their feet and taking off diagonaly.
Pool swim triathlons have become an important part of the triathlon scene in recent years. Pool swim races allow us to begin the triathlon season earlier than normal, and also allow us to utilize venues that have no open water options. For pool swims, when you register, submit an estimated 100 YARD swim time. Then we will seed everyone starting with the fastest swimmer to the slowest based on these swim times. At the race, participants begin the swim in seeded order, one person at a time. Normally, participants begin every 15 seconds, although this start interval is sometimes changed slightly. Participants “snake” their way across the pool – down and back in each lane – covering the required distance when they exit the pool. In pool swim races, it is very important that participants provide accurate swim times when they register.
