How do Peugeot Pepper Mill mechanisms compare with the new ceramic pepper grinders?
I get asked this questions alot. My sense is that the best manufacturers’ are opting for stainless steel pepper grinders and ceramic grinders for salt. This is because stainless steel remains sharper than ceramic mill stones and works best on pepper. Using ceramic grinders for salt, however, means that the issue of corrosion of a stainless steel salt grinder is avoided, and indeed ceramic grinders tend to be more forgiving of a wetter sea salt, as well. Interesting, the newer ranges that we have, the Trudeau mills and Top Gourmet mills, have chosen the exact option above – stainless steel for pepper mills, ceramic for salt mills. However, they are still recommending a dry sea salt on their ceramic salt grinders. Peugeot pepper grinders are stainless steel still, and so are their salt grinders (the latter being anti corrosion treated). To answer the original question, the Peugeot pepper grinders still work fantastically, and I would still recommend them above all other pepper mills beca
