How do people with little or no sight cook?
Alternative senses can be very useful when learning to cook with little or no vision. People can learn adaptive techniques to cook safely. Appliances, such as stoves, microwave ovens and blenders can be labeled with tactile dots to identify various settings. Large-print or braille labels can be affixed to ingredient containers for easy and efficient identification. There are a number of adaptive kitchen aids, such as long oven mitts, liquid level indicators (a device that buzzes when the liquid reaches a certain point to avoid overflow) and double-sided spatulas that can make cooking safer and easier.
