How do people get Aseptic Meningitis?
Usually people get enteroviruses, which are the most common cause of viral meningitis through direct contact with an infected person’s stool. Small children that have not been toileted and the adults who have contact with them can receive and spread the virus through poor handwashing and personal hygiene practices. Enteroviruses can also be spread through direct or indirect contact with respiratory secretions (saliva, sputum, or nasal mucus) of an infected person. Another leading cause of asceptic meningitis are arboviruses which are spread from the bite of infected mosquitoes and other insects.
