How do people find the courage to live unconventional lives?
I don’t know if this addresses your question, but for me, speaking as an atheist, I feel it is easier to live an unconventional life than follow a God that I don’t believe in. I value my personal beliefs more than those that society instills upon its members. Therefore, I would rather have a negative stigma attached to me and live life the way I choose than blend in and life in a way that I don’t necessarily believe is right. So, I guess society’s standards conflict with the personal beliefs of those that lead unconventional lives. And between being alienated and living in hypocrisy, the former is the lesser evil.
