How do people become homeless? What are we doing in Canada to prevent homelessness?
In Calgary, the homeless population is over %50 working poor, this means they hold full time Jobs but simply can’t afford the deposits and rent due to the VERY high market right now, we have opened up old warehouses and schools to temporarily shelter such people, but I’m not sure about long term solutions.
There is a man that goes to my parents Church who is homeless. The members of that congregation have done a lot to try to help him. However, his problem is that he does not like to take orders from any one. Because of this, he can’t hold down a job. So, as much as the members have tried to help him, he is just unwilling to do that which is necessary for him to be able to support himself. I am not saying that every homeless person is like this man. I don’t even claim know what portion of the homeless population is like him. However, you should be aware that there are people out there that, for one reason or another, prefer to live on the streets rather than do those things that are necessary to get off of the streets. That does not mean that we should not try to help them, but there is a limit to what you can do for them.
People get into debt and if you can’t do any thing about it you will sink… some people just can’t work, some people don’t want to work… there are a lot of reasons for homelessness… As for fixing it, I don’t know… there is no one solution… I think what the problem is, every thing is to expensive, if you have noticed every time they rise the minimum wage the prices for every thing goes up, so really you are not making more you are just making enough still… instead of raising wages we should be lowering prices or putting some sort of “cap” on them…
