How do payments to an applicant for unemployment benefits affect my UI Employer Account (Tax Paying Employers Only)?

0

Payments made to unemployment insurance applicants can be determined either chargeable or not chargeable to their base period employers. Chargeable benefits paid will be used in the calculation of your experience rating. Although there are some rare exceptions, on or before each December 15, Minnesota UI calculates experience ratings for each taxpaying employer who has been subject to paying unemployment taxes for the 12 calendar months ending on the prior June 30. This experience rating applies for the following calendar year. The experience rating is the ratio obtained by dividing 125 percent of an employer’s total benefits paid charges during the 48 calendar months ending on the prior June 30 by the employer’s total taxable payroll for that same period. Adjustments to the amount of benefits paid charges will be used in future experience rating calculations.
