How do neutral responses affect the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment?
The purpose of the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment is to help you begin to discover your most dominant talents by identifying the areas, or “themes,” in which they lie. It does so by presenting you with a situation in which you are forced to select between two choices that are different, but not necessarily opposite. Obviously, if you can’t make a selection because you feel that neither choice applies to you, your neutral response will not count in the final scoring process. Less obviously, if you can’t make a selection because you feel that both choices apply to you, your neutral response will still not count in the final scoring process. Why? Because sometimes the most revealing choices are between two positives. If you can’t make a choice — if both statements apply to you equally — this pair of statements probably is not tapping into one of your most dominant themes.
