How do NET employees keep track of “network devices” (such as switches and routers)?

We use a primitive “home-grown” object database called HashPM with a derived class called NetDevice. From this database we generate HTML and PostScript descriptions of routers and switches. Also, DNS entries are generated for these devices from this database. See the README under http://mil.doit.wisc.edu/net/devices/ for details. Secondly, like WNRCS we track modifactions to the configurations of network devices use NetCMS, a Revision Control System for Cisco routers and switches.
