How do neglect my hair to Dreadlocks?
This is a common misconception usually held by first time dreaders and/or cultures who do not dread their hair. The proper hair maintenance regimen including washing one’s hair is SUPER important for any style…including locks. For course grains of hair (ex. African-American tightly curled textured hair) the first few weeks when the hair is first twisted you should not wash your hair. For less course hair (ex. Latino or Asian wavy or straight textured hair), one should wait several weeks before washing. However, thereafter, you CAN and SHOULD gently wash your hair. Delicately, wash your hair focusing mostly on the roots being as careful as possible not to unravel your twists. After you wash your hair, you can then go through using wax or a locking gel and touch up any stray hairs and freshen your coifs. Sit under a hooded-dryer or use a warm blow drier to dry your hair.
