How do my care details affect how CSA calculates child support?
The child support formula uses the percentage of care that each parent has of the children to work out who is directly meeting the children’s costs. The percentage of care is based on the number of nights that you will care for the children over the next 12 months. The child support formula requires each parent to meet a share of the children’s costs, according to their share of the total income of both parents. Parents with at least 14% care are acknowledged as directly meeting some of the costs of their children through care. This is called the cost percentage and reflects your expenditure on costs like accommodation, food, clothing, transport, and medical costs while the kids are in your care. The remainder of your share of the children’s costs is transferable as child support. If you meet more than your share directly, you may receive child support.
