How do music composers relax?
A.R. Rahman: [laughs] Actually, I listen to music too, and I don’t have any specific choices – anything goes. I select songs at random and listen. Dr.Desi: We have just heard about the A.R Rahman Foundation. What is its purpose? How are you involved? A.R. Rahman: I have set up this Foundation primarily to work with underprivileged children, to support them with their education. The first project is to open a school in the outskirts of Madras in India. I am closely involved but I am also building a team to support me with the Foundation. Dr.Desi: What is your message to talented readers of Dr. Desi who aspire to enter the Asian music industry? How important are ‘contacts’ as people believe the music industry is quite chaotic. A.R.Rahman: Yes, there is some great new young talent.
