How do Montana’s forests fit into Climate Change forecasts?
Montana’s forests are currently measured as net carbon sinks, sequestering more than 23 million metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. The Montana Climate Change Action Plan has forecast that the state’s forests will continue to sequester similar quantities of CO2 through the year 2020. However, recommendations to enhance the state’s forest resources could raise levels of forest sequestration if successfully acted upon.
