How Do MOD Chips Work?
Origin A mod chip, also known as modchip or mod-chip, is a modification chip that is inserted into the hard drive of a system to add new logic that bypasses already functioning logic in the hard drive. Mod chips were originally created with the intention to bypass region encoding–for example, so a Japanese video game could be played on an American version of a gaming console. Mod chips used to involve having to insert a new microchip into the system, but now there are available external mod chips and mod chip compact discs. The way a mod chip works is determined by the type of mod chip product you buy, but the basic explanation is that a mod chip either reverses, replaces or adds new data into the system that was not already present.
