How do Mexicans in the USA celebrate ” Las Posadas” and Christmas ?
Living in San Antonio, Tx, there are a lot of Mexican/Hispanic influences. I can tell you that the Mexican people, who are, for the majority, Roman Catholic, celebrate Christmas much in the manner of other Christian-based religions. This includes going to mass on Christmas Eve and spending Christmas Day with family and friends. Christmas day usually includes a feast of some sort akin to Thanksgiving, although instead of turkey and stuffing, many Mexicans and Hispanics prefer dishes that are traditional to their culture, such as tamales and mole. They go along with the whole Santa Claus scheme and dole out gifts to each other. In addition to that, most houses are adorned with Christmas lights. Sometimes, if the family is Catholic, they celebrate the days of Advent and read the Bible verses that correspond to the date.
