How do maritime development areas relate to areas of high ecological significance?
For historical reasons, some identified maritime development areas do coincide with areas of high ecological significance. The Draft State Planning Policy Coastal Protection provides that, where significant adverse effects on areas of high ecological significance cannot be avoided within a maritime development area, those effects are minimised and any remaining impacts offset according to the Queensland Government Environmental Offsets Policy 2008.
