How do managers calculate the annual leave and bank holiday entitlement from 1 October 2004?
The period 1 October 2004 to 31 March 2005 is a half year’s annual leave entitlement. This should be converted to the appropriate hourly equivalent using Table 2 And dividing the annual hourly allowance by two, to obtain the half year allowance. Managers / supervisors need to note that there are 5 bank holidays remaining in the leave year to 31 March 2005. The appropriate hourly entitlement on each bank holiday is shown in Table 3. This needs to be multiplied by five and added to the half year allowance. Managers / supervisers also need to note that they must tell all their staff the Bank Holiday days on which their departments will be closed. This is most important because staff need to ensure that they retain sufficient hours within their overall leave entitlement to cover these holidays. Where staff have already taken more than half a years annual leave under their old entitlement, the difference will need to be deducted from the half yearly entitlement under the new arrangements.
