Well, there are several ways to do it, but this is about the easiest I’ve found and I’ve done mosaics on benches, tables, shelves and craft projects. First, I lay out all of my pieces on the surface of what I intend to adhere it to. If it is a large and complicated design, I number the tiles and trace them on the surface with the number in the center, so I don’t forget my design. Here you can use tile adhesive or thinset to adhere the tiles, or what I’ve found works just as well is plumber’s goop or Locktite. Just make sure you completely coat the back of each tile with enough adhesive to get to the edges. Let the adhesive cure and thoroughly dry and then you are ready to grout. Mix up the grout to a cake batter consistency and use a float to skim coat over the tops of the tiles making certain you force the grout in between the tiles.
