How do Italian, Roman and Greek columns look different to eachother and why?
They were different ‘orders’. (Italian coulmns would not be part of the main classical orders – presumably you are referring to Rennaissance architecture which came far later and tended to take liberties with the classical originals) The 5 orders were Tuscan (Roman) utilitarian Doric (Greek) plain but strong Ionic (Greek) considered ‘femenine’ Corinthian (Greek) suitable for major buildings Composite (Roman) more elaborate. They derived from wooden architecture and were divinely inspired supposedly – they were formalised into the five main types we now know, but capable of wide variation.
