How do invasive species harm endangered species?
Invasive species can harm endangered species in any number of ways: they can eat them; compete with them for food; compete with them for habitat; change their habitat; or expose them to new diseases, just to name a few. For example, Hawai’i is home to some of the worlds rarest and most unique bird species, and invasive species are considered one of the most serious threats to these birds. Feral pigs and rats destroy birds nests and kill chicks; invasive plants destroy habitat; and invasive mosquitoes brought new diseases into the islands that have decimated bird populations.
