Those that do knowingly hire illegals do so by technically following the current laws – namely documenting their false identification. Current laws do not require companies to ensure that the documentation is real only provided. These workers are paid a legal wage even though they may work for less than others and they pay taxes, social security, etc. It is small companies and businesses like farm labor, handyman services or lawncare that are likely to hire an illegal worker and pay them cash. Small businesses can often do it because they are not as closely watched by the authorities. The people that hire these businesses don’t care who is working for them as long as the price is cheap.
