Depends on what your thesis is, and how you will support it. If you believe that children living in single parent households are likely to live in poverty, and to have a hard time, as adults, breaking into the middle class, and think that the best way for government to deal with this is to give all single parent families $50,000 annual stipends, and have the research to back all that, then you say that in your thesis statement, and go on to develop and support your argument in your thesis. Perhaps like this: “Children living in single family homes are 4.5 times as likely as children living in two parent homes, to live in a home where the family income is below the Federal poverty line, according to Merck & Donaldson (2002). As adults, children of single family homes where income is below the poverty line are only half as likely to achieve middle class status themselves, as are children from two parent households, per a study by the Temple University Center for Family Research (2003).
