How do I write a proper business letter?
The general rules governing a business letter have changed a lot. While many of the classical rules have now been disposed of, writing a business letter still requires focus and purpose. Don’t be too casual in addressing the recipient. Remember the old rule of starting with a polite salutation? Well, that still is as relevant as ever. The biggest mistake while addressing a person is getting the name wrong. Just one spelling error can leave a very bad first impression. The context should be clear. Let the reader know what the context of your letter is. Have you corresponded before? Was your letter preceded by a tele-conversation? Are you writing on behalf of someone or have you been referred to by someone? In the age of junk mails and spamming, an ill-constructed business letter will very easily find itself in the Recycle Bin. Cut a long story short. What is it that you’re writing about? Once you’ve introduced yourself, get straight to the point and state the purpose. Nobody likes to se
