How do I write a letter to the Dean of my college?
Unless you are at a REALLY small school which does not have departments or other administrators, the Dean is several levels up and not the person you should go to first. His/her usual job is things like fundraising and strategic planning, not dealing with individual student complaints. If the teacher herself has not been responsive to requests, the person one would normally go to would be the department chair. You don’t really need to write a letter; an email would be fine, because what you really want to do is to talk to her/him, so you just need to give enough of an idea of what you want to talk about so that s/he will make an appointment with you. If there isn’t a chair, is there an associate or assistant dean who would be the appropriate person to talk to? One thing I would caution you about is separating the facts from your complaints and fears. Other students being fed up, or your fears of getting a lower grade than you usually do, are not things which concern an administrator. T
