In a traditional financial need statement, the applicant describes his/her total anticipated expenses, and then discloses what they anticipate receiving. Here we’re talking about scholarships, loans, grants, and out-of-pocket contributions. You do however have the opportunity to explain any special circumstances that you want the scholarship committee or the financial aid office to consider – here’s where you can describe why your mother won’t be able to contribute much (if anything) to your expenses.
