How do I use SSH tunnelling to access Computing Science resources while off-campus?

One way of accessing resources while off-campus is the use of port forwarding through SSH. This works by letting you tell a software package to look at localhost to access something which is actually being tunnelled to a specified server elsewhere. If you are using an OpenSSH Client (i.e. a Unx machine, or CygWin on Windows), instead of having to specify numerous “-L” options on a command line for an SSH connection you can create a file called “config” in the .SSH dictory in your $HOME directory on the client computer. Here is a sample config file with some useful ports forwarded for you.
