How do I use Privilege Manager to run software normally requiring Administrative rights?
Sometimes software applications can require that a user have Administrative rights to properly function, or even run at all. There are many reasons for this, including: • The need to write or modify files within protected areas of Windows; e.g. the Program Files directory, the Windows directory • The need to write or modify protected areas of the Registry • Legacy applications developed for older versions of Windows which do not support the concept of Least Privilege; e.g. Windows 95, Windows 98 • Poor coding by software developers In these instances, simply double-clicking an application’s EXE file will not work, and will generally fail with some sort of error that indicates Administrative rights are required. When personnel encounter this issue, two things need to occur: I.)
