How do I use my Affero volunteer profile with freenode?
Once you’ve joined Affero, you can create several donation profiles providing support to different organizations. The Affero site explains how and takes you through demos. Pick your preferred donation profile and make it your default, then place the URL of your default profile in your IRC client’s realname field. On many clients, you can simply set a shell variable called IRCNAME to contain the URL. For example, Robert Levin, the head of freenode, might place the following line in the startup script for his IRC client: export IRCNAME=’http://svcs.affero.net/rm.php?r=lilo’ When users display /whois lilo, they’ll see something like: *** lilo is levin@lilo.staff.freenode (http://svcs.affero.net/rm.php?r=lilo) *** on irc via server irc.freenode.net *** lilo is an identified user On many clients the user can click directly on the URL to go to your Affero page.
