ArtMatic Pro lets you use an external picture or movie by using a PICT/MOVIE component in the ArtMatic structure tree. The precise steps for doing this is provided in the tutorials and Getting Started document provided with ArtMatic Pro (with both the demo version and full version). Please see the documentation and provided example files to see how to do this. Please note that there are quite a few example files included with the download that use external files.
