How do I use a LaTeX equation editing software (and which are recommended)?

For pre-calculus and calculus courses you may benefit from using a robust online equation editor. If you want a free online equation editor (as opposed to downloading software such as Math Type) I recommend Online LaTeX Equation Editor, an open-source equation editor by CodeCogs.com. It takes some practice to use, but is quite complete (including symbols for maths, chemistry, physics) and produces clean expressions that you can cut-and-paste into a discussion board message (select the expression, copy CTRL+C, then paste CTRL+V into your DB message). Another (simpler, less robust) online equation editor is Sitmo LaTeX Equation Editor. After creating an expression, click the hyperlink for “Permanent link to this image”, a new webpage will open containing your expression that you can cut-and-paste into a discussion board message (select all CTRL+A, copy CTRL+C, then paste CTRL+V into your DB message).
