How do I unclog a dryer vent?

Check the vent hood where it comes outside. There is a baffle that may be restricted and cannot open enough to create a proper flow. Also, remove the vent hose from the rear of the dryer and see if the restriction may be there. If so, the blower housing may need a thorough cleaning. Another thing to check is if you can see the entire run of the vent hose, see if there are any sags or tears that can collect lint and cause this problem.

The hardware store sells the long flexible brush that you run up inside the vent pipe. Un-hook dryer and run it up that way…then go to the outside vent…remove the cover and run it in that way too. It should pull out all the lint. Plus check the dryer itself….the clog could be right there. Make sure the screen area is clear down inside dryer. If you have an air compressor…blow out the dryer first…then the vent pipe.
