How do I turn off the autorun on my external hard drive?
I’m sorry but I don’t think turning off Autorun will solve this. Nothing about Autorun will cause a “conflict with your PC hard drive” such as to force a restart. Well, maybe if there was a “restart” command in the autorun.inf… It is possible there is some corrupt file system structure on the drive that’s causing Windows to crash. It’s also possible the USB enclosure for the drive isn’t working right. To address the first problem, try zeroing the drive with something like DBAN. Find and download the ISO for the DBAN (Darik’s Boot And Nuke) CD, burn it to a CD, boot from it, and follow the instructions. Be sure you are wiping your add-on drive and not your internal drive! The only way to troubleshoot hardware problems in the USB drive enclosure is to try a different “known good” one. Of course if you have yet another drive, one that works in that enclosure, that eliminates the enclosure as a suspect. Unless… how big is this drive and how old is the enclosure? Some older ones couldn’
