You can manually turn off AutoPreview under the Customize View Menu in native Outlook. Click Other Settings and select the No AutoPreview radio button. In Outlook 2003 this is found via View > Arrange By > Customize Current View. In Outlook 2007 go to View > Current View > Customize Current View.
